A Resolution to Support Community Based Organizations in Their Dedication for Israeli-Palestinian Peace

Summary of the Resolution
The resolution calls for the U.S. to support community voices for reconciliation in their dedication for solving conflict in Israel and Palestine. community based organizations have been working with Israelis and Palestinians to discuss humanitarian concerns and peace.

They are committed to nonviolence, the recognition for Israel’s right to exist, and are working intensively to get a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. community based organizations should have more backing for the work they do because of the hard work they put into promoting peace through communication, friendship, and understanding.

The Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-446) allows the United States to assist grassroots organizations that aid in basic human needs, protection of human freedoms, promote human rights, nonviolence, and just and peaceful reconciliations, in an agreement that their assistance is not to any means consciously supporting terrorist organizations.

H.Res 1369 calls upon the House of Representatives to:

1. Recognizes grassroots organizations role in globally building peace between Israel and Palestine as well as encourages them to remain in their persistence.
2. Appreciates the work of people committing their time and effort in grassroots organizations
3. Recognizes and gives confidence for their efforts
4. Acknowledges the importance of U.S. support for community voices for reconciliation
5. Insists that Israeli and Palestinian leaders welcome the spirit of the community voices for reconciliation peace builders that are putting great efforts toward creating lasting peace.

Certain community based organizations, such as A New Way, are working toward bringing Arabs and Jews together in Israel through school activities that involve music, art, drama, science, and environmental studies. While there are others such as, AREEN/Future Vision, that encourage young Palestinians to build a democratic and civil society.
